Executive Appointment for The Smith Family

Our Managing Director Andrew has recently assisted The Smith Family with the appointment of their new Chief Financial Officer. He shares his experience of working with this wonderful organisation below:

Let me start by saying, The Smith Family is such a fantastic organisation. Having worked with them for the past few months, it did not take long to realise that the people make the organisation. Everyone involved has such a passion for the work being done by the organisation – Easy to understand why the term ‘for purpose’ applies!

Established in 1922, today their work reaches more than 127,000 disadvantaged children and families in 94 communities across Australia. Their team steps into a disadvantaged child’s life while they are still at school, to help them get the most from their time there. By supporting a child to participate in education, The Smith Family prevents them experiencing a lifetime of poverty.

Even though the organisation has ambitious growth plans, their commitment to maintain and improve the ability of the team to maximise efforts and minimise/eradicate youth disadvantage is incredible.

I have always wanted to do more volunteering and give back to organisations like The Smith Family. However, as I am sure many of you reading this will relate to, with a young family and a busy work life, it is tough to find the time to choose which organisation you want to help and decide what to actually do for them. When the opportunity arose to run this search and take the fee off the table to give back to a fantastic organisation and cause, it did not take long for me to sign up!

As always, a comprehensive process was run to find an executive with the drive, significant experience and a real affinity with the purpose of the organisation. I am delighted to announce that the end result was the appointment of Paul Johnston to the role of Chief Financial Officer. He will be working with the board and executive team to continue the great work that they do.

I was introduced to Paul in 2015 upon his return to Australia. During interactions over the last 6 years, including through this process, I can honestly say The Smith Family and everyone they serve will benefit from Paul’s appointment – he is such a genuine and talented operator that always has a smile on his face. On behalf of Allura Partners, I wish you well in your new purpose driven role Paul!

Thank you to the team at The Smith Family for your contribution to the process. Special thanks to Annette and Eamon for the opportunity to contribute to the organisation and for your support and commitment to the process – it was a real pleasure.

If you are in the position to give back to an excellent organisation, please consider The Smith Family and helping end youth disadvantage. Please click here to learn more about how you can help by donating or sponsoring a child.
