DevOps and Cloud Search: Allura Partners Expands Capabilities
Allura Partners has expanded its Technology & Digital team with the addition of Toby Wallace as a Principal Consultant specialising in DevOps and Cloud recruitment. Direct from Scotland, Toby’s extensive experience in the technology recruitment sector bring a fresh perspective and deep expertise to our DevOps and Cloud recruitment efforts.
Prior to joining Allura Partners, Toby worked with Morgan Phillips in Scotland, where he progressed from an associate consultant to a managing consultant. His experience includes building and leading teams focussing on the Scottish tech and cloud markets, in companies ranging from SME’s, listed corporates and VC/PE backed businesses.
At Allura Partners, Toby will be focussing on recruiting for several crucial positions in the DevOps and Cloud space, including DevOps Engineers, Cloud Engineers/Architects, Site Reliability Engineers (SRE), Technical Architects, and Infrastructure Engineers.
“These roles are at the forefront of technological innovation and are essential for businesses looking to optimise their operations and stay competitive in an increasingly digital landscape,” he observed.
Talent Market Trends in DevOps and Cloud
The demand for skilled professionals in DevOps and Cloud technologies continues to soar. According to Deloitte research, job advertisements requiring key emerging technology skills are projected to account for 61% of all job postings by 2030. This trend is particularly evident in the DevOps sector, where demand for engineers is at an all-time high, especially in major Australian cities like Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane.
The talent supply is not keeping pace with this growing demand, due to several factors:
Increased reliance on technology across all business sectors,
Aggressive counteroffers from current employers to retain talent,
Candidate preference for job security during uncertain times, and
Hesitancy among companies to sponsor visas for overseas candidates.
"All of this means the DevOps and Cloud sectors offer exciting opportunities for professionals who choose to 'put themselves out there.' And with many roles in this field now commanding salaries exceeding $200,000, it has become one of the most financially rewarding areas in the Australian job market." he said.
The Importance of Cultural Fit for Long-Term Satisfaction
To successfully place candidates in a competitive environment, Toby said it is critical to understand both the technical requirements and the human elements of recruitment. “When I’m looking for good engineers to present to clients, it’s all about really delving deeper into their skillset, their motivations, what they do and what they specialise in, and then finding roles that match that," he said.
Cultural fit is also essential because to ensure tenure, we need to ensure long-term professional satisfaction: “It’s really important to understand their overall motivations. What sort of work-life balance do they need? What sort of projects are they interested in? What sort of office environment do they thrive in?”
This holistic approach ensures that Toby can provide real long-term value, matching candidates who not only have the technical skillset but also align well with the team and company culture.
Navigating the DevOps and Cloud Landscape
Drawing from his experience, Toby offers valuable advice for professionals in the DevOps and Cloud space: “My key advice for DevOps engineers is to get ahead – and stay ahead – of the curve. It’s critical that candidates quickly adapt to new technologies and new tools being released because the quicker they can become competent with these new tools, the more valuable they’re going to be in the market.
“This is particularly important with emerging technologies like AI: we’re seeing the first movers really start integrating AI in everything they do, and the rest of the market will follow.”
Looking Ahead at Allura Partners
Having only recently arrived from Scotland, Toby said he is keen to establish himself in the Australian market by leveraging his relationship-building skills and industry knowledge.
“It’s a new market and it’s a new candidate base and network that I’ll focus on building; that’s about going out and engaging with people with the right skillset for our clients, which is something I enjoy” he explained.
With a focus on building lasting relationships, understanding the intricacies of the market, and staying ahead of technological trends, Toby aims to become a go-to resource for DevOps and Cloud recruitment in Australia.
“I’m excited about working with companies looking to enhance their DevOps and Cloud capabilities, and about supporting professionals seeking new opportunities in this exciting field,” he said. “One of the greatest rewards in this profession is placing a candidate in a role that they love then watching them – and the business they’re in – grow over time.”
