Transformation, Change & Technology... what's happening?

It’s a challenging time across the Australian market for employers who are looking to recruit and candidates looking for roles. However, it’s not all doom and gloom! Chris Eggleston & Matt Jelley in our Transformation & Change division at Allura Partners have been talking to our clients and candidates throughout this challenging time. Here’s an insight into what’s happening in the market at present:

What has been happening?

  • Lots of businesses seem to be looking at reporting and analytics on current staff and contractors. We’ve seen a number of large PMO’s have to talk through their worth to business sponsors.

  • Government is investing money into projects/infrastructure so the government agencies appear to be very busy.

  • Professional services and big 4 consulting have let a number of people go, specifically people on working visas.

  • Banking has been busy, pushing through the royal commission commitments they have to deliver.

  • From a recruitment process, roles seem to be moving slowly with lots of our clients waiting for the new financial year to kick in and for roles to be officially approved.

The good stuff…

  • We are starting to see an appetite for new projects as we head into the new financial year. The majority of these are in and around the process improvement and cost reduction space - projects that can deliver a tangible outcome in a short space of time and increase the gross margin a business unit is making.

  • Technology and data has been relatively undisrupted throughout COVID-19 – not much scaling up but very little turn over. Cloud & Cyber security still seems to be at the forefront of companies plans and roadmaps.

  • Programs of work which were mid-flight during March-June are now restarting and we’re beginning to see an appetite for new projects as we head into the new financial year.

The candidates…

  • We have seen a large number of people pull together and help out where possible by making introductions, giving CV advice and interview tips to give everyone the best chance to secure a role. In particular, Matt has been working with a number of his network who are running 1:1 job search discussions with people looking for a new position.

  • Feedback is king! A common theme in the recruitment process is not hearing back about applications. Some interviewers are also not providing feedback post an interview and this is adding to the challenge. Candidates want to know how they can better themselves for next time. Positive or negative, feedback is very appreciated at the moment.

  • As expected, we are seeing a competitive market with a lot of great people in “job search” mode. The outlook is still positive and people are really taking the time to evaluate their key drivers and what they want from their next opportunity.

  • Job searchers are looking at roles based closer to home/with onsite parking. People are looking at their commute a lot more and trying to reduce this/spend less time in public spaces.

Chris, Matt and the wider team are happy to have a chat with anyone that wants to learn more about what is happening in the market.
